Could you introduce yourself ?
– My name is Maria and I represent Poland.
– I am Maëlys and I represent Lebanon.
What do you think of this opening ceremony ?
– Maria : I really enjoyed it ! It wasn’t too long, or too short. I really enjoyed the songs they were well sung by Josephina.
– Maelys : It was beautiful ! I really liked the speeches of the vice president and of the English and Spanish committees. The music of the flag procession was incredibly well chosen.
What did you do on the first day of the conference ?
– Maria and Maëlys : We first played a few games to learn a bit more about each other. There was a bingo with personal questions, and we had to find the right person. And then after lunch we started to work.
Could you explain what lobbying is ?
– Maria : It is when you split the committee into two groups of delegates that have all prepared clauses to answer the questions, and we had to discuss and we choose the best clauses to debate.
– Maelys : We are assigned a group of allied countries, and you have to choose clauses, so that after you can debate on the resolutions which are proposed.
What was the atmosphere like in the group ?
– Maria : There were a lot of shy people because it was the first day and we didn’t know each other that well.
– Maelys : Our group was incredible, we worked well, and everyone got along well. This edition of the MFGNU was intense for the Human Right Committee this year, with debates, but this year the outcome was incredible because all the resolutions were approved, which is extremely rare. In these two and a half days of conference in the Human Right Committee, there were laughs, tears, stress, people built new friendship with international guests, and all our students developed new skills such as defending one’s ideas orally, giving public speeches, and speaking spontaneously in a foreign language.
