Interview of the Human Rights Committee

Could you present yourself ?
– My name is Maria and I represent Poland.
– My name is Maëlys and I represent Liban.
What did you think of the opening ceremony ?
– Maria: I really enjoyed it! It wasn’t too long, or too short. I really enjoyed the songs that were well sung by Josefina.
– Maëlys: It was beautiful! I really liked the speeches from the vice president and from the English and Spanish committees. The music from the flag procession was incredibly well chosen.
What did you do on the first day of the conference ?
– Maria and Maëlys: We first played a few games to learn a bit more about each other.
There was a bingo with questions, and we had to find people who corresponded to those questions. Then, after lunch we started lobbying.
Could you explain what lobbying is ?
– Maria: It is when you split the committee into two groups of delegates that have all prepared clauses to solve the problematic, and you must choose the best clauses to debate on.
– Maëlys: It takes place at the very beginning of the conference. We are assigned to a group of countries who get along together, and we have to choose the best closes, so that we can debate on the resolutions that are suggested.
What was the atmosphere like in the group ?
– Maria: There were a lot of shy people, but that is mainly because it was the first day and we didn’t know each other very well.
– Maelys: Our group was incredible, we worked well, and everyone got along well.
This edition of the MFGNU was intense for the Human Right Committee, with animated debates, which ended with an incredible plot twist. All the resolutions have been approved, which is extremely rare. In these two and a half days of conference, in the Human Right Committee, we laughed, teared up, stressed, people build new friendships with international guests, and all of our students developed new skills, such as orally defending one’s ideas, giving public speeches, and speaking spontaneously in a foreign language.
